Full of How-To's & Real-life Application

This book is what I call practical! While Mr. Copeland works all the theory and high-level info you might want into a book about a classical education method, he uses conversational dialogue samples and reproducible checklists, etc. to give you tangible real-life help in running a Socratic circle in your classroom. The focus on assessment caught me off-guard. However, in our "everyone-gets-a-ribbon-JUST-for-participating" culture, learning to give and receive real feedback is a necessary life skill, one that many of our modern students don't have the opportunity to learn. I highly recommend this book.

I'm enjoying the read so far, but the author raises several potential issues one might encounter (like a kid who won't participate), without satisfactory solutions. If this strategy is as effective as the author frequently boasts it is, I would expect some more concrete answers.

A great book from South Mantis Press!

This book covers a topic that is not seen very much within the South Mantis Kung Fu community. The concept of Soft Bridge training versus the Hard Bridge that you see more predominantly demoed around the world.

Shifu Roger Hagood and Shifu Anthony Chan have documented a 1st Generation student of Sigung Lao Sui, Shifu Chu Kai Ming.

Soft Bridge training is thoroughly described as well as warm ups and much more.

Chu Kai Ming,s techniques is quite similar to my Sifu Chu Kwong Hau where the force employed is less vigorous ! His hand techniques relevant to true combats, but the pictures are sometimes blurring indeed. A good book for our Chu Gar Mantis really ……

"...the plot for 'Cadian Blood' is one that kept me hooked with its daring strikes, harrowing reverses and last ditch stands. The underlying mystery of the plague is also played out very well, especially when the stakes suddenly get a lot higher without any explanation... About the Author
Aaron Dembski-Bowden's past in the RPG and video game industries is exactly that: the past. While some of his projects were nominated for various awards and he enjoyed a chunk of successful work, he quickly grew bored of trying to live a real life. Instead, he fled to the middle of the Northern Irish countryside to live the life of a full-time novelist, with his girlfriend Cathy and a tabby cat called Loken. He's been a full-time writer ever since he left uni in the early 2000s, which he attributes to a combination of raw talent, rugged good looks, blind luck - and absolutely no modesty. His first published work for the Black Library, Cadian Blood, is about - among other things - Cadians bleeding. He's been a deeply entrenched fan of Warhammer 40,000 since he ruined his copy of Space Crusade with the painting skills expected of an overexcited nine-year-old. When he's not writing, he's usually feeling guilty for not writing, going for long walks in expensive sunglasses, or getting annoyed at his Xbox. His main hobbies include reading anything within reach, fighting his cat, and helping people spell his surname. Aaron fears only the following things: 1. Responsibility. 2. Deadlines. 3. Monsters.

The Emperor protects!

A very well done story with characters you could like. Good story pacing. Plot elements that smoothly fit into the 40K u-verse (though I agree that some of the battles with the Traitor Marines had an element of "How was that possible ..."), but the elements were satisfying and made me feel (gasp) good at the end. Most of the 40K books are satisfying, but not many convey a feeling that humanity can triumph over evil through the actions of one or two mere mortals.

BTW, it also had some Astartes characters who didn't walk out and leave the Guard hanging. I sure wouldn't mind seeing this cast of characters in another novel, though it does not need to be set immediately after this book.

Last but not least, I just received this from Amazon five days ago as a pre-order, so I was surprised to see this is already out-of-print (as I write this). If you want it, try Amazon UK.

Nice first book

I am a fan of the author, and this is a solid first book.

You get great fighting, a Commisar to hate, a main character to root for, although not enough mechanical dog.

Well worth a pick up, and should be cheap to boot.

Another great book of the Imperial guard following, of course, the Cadians. If you like warhammer and are an IG fan, i'd say get it!
