THE book on brushes

I studied with Jon several years ago, so I know from firsthand experience that he truly is a brush master. He can do things with brushes that boggle your mind when seen up close. Fortunately, he has authored this fantastic book on the subject that thoroughly address the fundamentals. If you want to become a serious brush player - and any jazz musician MUST be a great brush player - then this is the book to get. Also check out his accompanying DVD "Brush Control" as a great supplement to the book. Seeing the patterns played visually is very important, as sometimes brush playing can be somewhat abstract to pick-up simply from a book.

A Great Workshop

I have really enjoyed this book. I have gained so much information I don't know where to begin. I have never been particularly skilled in the art of the brushes. However, after reading "Mastering the Arts of Brushes" and completing most of the 32 bursh patterns, my skills have really begun to develop. Additionally, I have seen my dexterity and coordination improve. The 10 essential concepts are key to understanding the way bushes are meant and can be used. I can now confidently incorporate brush strokes in my music.

Prologue
I enter the building and decide to take the stairs to the third floor instead of the elevator. As I get to the second level, a voice bounces off the walls and stops me dead in my tracks. “You must want Mr. Matthews to get hurt.”
I gasp in shock as I look up to see Antonio walking down the stairs towards me. My first thought is, ‘Shit did he see me with Derrick…and if he did, how much did he actually see?!’ My second thought is, ‘He’s so intimidating when he stabs me with those cold pewter eyes. Now is definitely not the time to talk about money!’ Then bizarrely I think, ‘My Gawd! No man should be that damn fine!’ To see such powerful thighs encased in a pair of very long denim blue jeans. And his chest! His chest and arms are so muscular, he must never miss a workout. There is nothing NOT sexy about Antonio Bentini. He is definitely a triple threat.

“Imagine my surprise… I get back in town, rush here to see my lady… And find her in the arms of another man.” Antonio’s voice is low and dangerous. I want to say something. I open my mouth to say something. My lips move, but no words come out.

“You didn’t answer my question, Ti. Do you want Derrick Matthews to get hurt?”

How in the world would he hurt him? He can‘t be saying that he’ll have a physical confrontation with Derrick? –Is he?

“No…No, of course not.” I start stepping back. Antonio matches me step for step until he backs me up against the wall.

“Whatever is going on between you and Derrick Matthews stops today. This minute. Do you understand what I’m saying, Tiressa?” He grates out in an infuriated voice. He seems more threatening because he isn’t yelling. The more upset he is, the lower his voice—as if it takes him a great deal of control not to lose control. Although we are not touching, I can feel the heat and energy radiating from his body into mine.

I guess I didn’t answer fast enough because Antonio grabs me by the arms and gives me a little shake. I quickly stammer a reply. “Yes. I understand you. But there’s nothing going on between us!”

“Don’t insult my intelligence, Tiressa.” Antonio snarls, squeezing my arms as he hauls me onto the tip of my toes and up against his solid torso.

“I’m not. I don’t have feelings for him..,not like that! He wants to date me, but I told him that I’m seeing someone—”

“You’re doing a hell of a lot more than seeing someone. Did you tell him that you and I are together."

I don't know what the hell I was thinking. This was just some disjointed and thrown together mess. I really tried to give this book a shot. I read the sample thinking, that while this isn't the most grammatically correct book, it seemed to have an interesting story line. And I am not one of those grammar Nazis that where every single sentence needs to be put together and spelled just so. But goodness, I've got a breaking point and I reached it while reading this. I should have paid more attention to the freaking cover, that would have told me a whole lot about this book already. Did you notice the spelling of the title? 'Loving a Bettini'. B-e-T-T-i-n-i. While right beside it, it states 'Mr Bentini's Lady'. B-e-N-t-i-n-i. The freaking name of the hero is spelled two different ways! The characters are all over the place. The timeline is iffy at best. For instance, in the one and only sex scene in this book, the heroine is thinking back about the sex they just had and states the hero came (orgasmed) like 2 or 3 times. Yet, during the actual reading of the scene, I only read of once, and even then it wasn't very clear. It's actually pretty choppy in its telling, as a matter of fact. And another thing, in the description of the book, we read there is another version, a more erotic version. So since I didn't find another version on Amazon, I assumed it to be like the other books I've read that has a cleaner version and you are able to go to either one in the table of contents after you purchase it. No, that wasn't the case. There was only one. No variational chapters or anything like that. And whichever one this is, is lukewarm in heat at best. By the way, this is part one of however many in this series. There is no kind of resolution to their relationship at the end of this novel, at all. I really hated to write this, bc I wanted to like this book. It has all my favs; a sweet, black, girl next door type that catches the eye of the hot, rich, alpha white guy. I wouldn't have even minded paying for the multiple parts to the series, had it actually been enjoyable. I would really love for this author to do a complete rewrite. I would like to know what happens between the H/h. But not at the poor quality of this book. Good grief I am disappointed!

Okay, I'm confused not only didn't the author finish this book but she is selling the same book with a few additions and asking for more of our money for something we should have gotten the first time or at least offered it for free for those that already purchased. I have stated many times before and I will say it again, I am so fed up with these authors writing sequels to get more of our hard earned money and ironically many of these Volume 1's, or Book 1's are not worth the purchase of the 2nd story, especially when the female character was so naive that she pretty much allowed every man in her life to practically stalk her while she waffled between whether she should date these creeps or not. Back and forth, back and forth, it was tiring to see her constant indecision and quite frankly I'm not to happy with the Bentini men either, they had very callous attitude about the women they supposedly love in the name of pleasing their parents (William/Katherine as well as our main characters here), yet supposedly their parents taught them to be open minded. Yeah, right only if one of their children doesn't actually bring the wrong type of mate home (not clearly stated but hellavu implied).

The story has as a fighting chance of being a good story, but it needs a serious rewrite

I have to agree with many other reviews. The book is ok... But the switch of character voices is confusing. she switches so quickly for Tiressa and Antonio. That I am left unsure for a moment who is speaking. The story has as a fighting chance of being a good story, but it needs a serious rewrite. The one time the characters has sex make it seem like he raped her. Hell if she is begging him to stop and he keeps going...... it's rape. I don't think that was the full intentions of the author. Which is why i am saying this book is ok. We will see in the next book.

How can we argue with what nature intended?

Finally a way of eating that encourages reliable weight loss, while promoting optimum health and there's solid science to back up its claims. This book explains simply but clearly just where we having been going wrong in our eating habits. It exposes why metabilic syndrome is prolific and just how it can be overcome. I have followed the guidelines within the book and while I have lost 7 kilos over the last 2 months, more importantly, I have never felt so good whilst 'dieting'. I actually have to say that the process has been an absolute pleasure and a far cry from the struggles that accompanied my attempts on the conventional low fat diets we have been duped into trusting.

I am never hungry and have so much energy, especially in the afternoons when I used to feel sluggish a couple of hours after lunch. My sleep has also improved as has the condition of my skin, hair and nails. These changes were evident within about 2 weeks of commencing the 'diet'. I actually don't like to refer to this as a diet as once I reach my goal weight (in the not too distant future), I will NOT be returning to my old habits, which ironically were deemed 'healthy' by conventional standards. No sir, I am experiencing what REAL health should feel like and quite simply it is from eating REAL food. Funny that! Ultimately, we cannot argue with nature and I am done trying.

A Must-Have for any Molecular Biologist...

I originally bought this book as a secondary source of information (Maniatis has ben my bible now for a few years...) but as time has progressed I have found myself using this book more and more. The protocols are easy to follow, logically placed, give enough information so you understand what it is you are doing, are up to date, and are all in one volume. Yes, this has effectively replaced my copy of Molecular Cloning (which is in desperate need of an update). Great job!

A very good reference manual

This book is an essential tool for people in the scientific field such as Molecular Biology (obviously), Biochemistry, and Neuroscience. It is comprehensive and up-to-date as far as the techniques are concerned. It is good value in a sense that you don't have to buy the whole "Current Protocols Series" which costs an arm and a leg if you do. Although nowadays, a lot of "kits" are commercially available, the techniques found in this book explain principles and provide different alternatives suited for your needs. Molecular Cloning by Maniatis et al., although needs updating, is still a helpful reference in my opinion and it complements this book.
