I am currently in graduate school for Community Mental Health Counseling for children, adolescents and families. This book is a required read but I have found it to be quite interesting and full of knowledge for my clinical class II. In our field crisis can be an everyday experience for the population we serve. What a great knowledgeable read.

Larry L. Howell grew up in the small town of Portage, Utah and has lived in Texas, Indiana, Utah, and Finland. He is an author, an engineer, a professor, a husband, and a father. He has been part of engineering teams that designed the YF-22 (the first prototype of the U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor), a nanoinjection process for injecting DNA into cells, and an artificial spinal disc. He is an inventor on over twenty patents and co-author of many technical publications. Dr. Howell is a mechanical engineering professor at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He and his wife, Peggy, have four children and live in Orem, Utah.

Great read!

I read this in about three hours because I couldn't wait to get through it. An engaging, dynamic main character that is very easy to identify with. Logical plot and believable villains. Very well written.

Hard to put down

Both my 12-year-old and I really liked this book. We both read it over the weekend and had fun talking about the different subplots and twists. The author does a great job of keeping up the suspense through the entire book. Some spy novels, especially spy novels involving kids, are just too fanciful to believe. Not this one. The main character is easy to identify with, and he gets involved in a situation that could be very real.

This is the absolute worst book I have ever laid my hands on. If you are looking for advise like "don't smoke", and "brush around the clock" for teeth whitening, and "close your eyes and imagine" you have pretty hair for having better hair, look no further. This is your book. If you want a real book on healing, move on. How this ever got published is beyond me.

Illuminating...

The author has taken a field rarely discussed in scholarly places and he does it very well. Normally the images of disasters in the mind of almost all of us are near Hollywood catastrophe movies, with full destruction and misery. In fact they are localized events and are more illuminating about what kind of society is that where it happens than about the disaster in itself. It is also good to be remembered that societies are not static artifacts, but moving, living things, so the old fashioned approach -that pitifully was almost lost due to the preeminence of suposedly more scientific mathematical analysis, comes to light and life with a vengeance.
