Twenty-four years after reading this book, its spirit still remains in me. I first read Tales of a Chinese Grandmother while in the third grade. Although I was raised in a traditional Chinese household, this book explained, with charm, the traditions and origins Chinese folklore.

This is not a college compendeum of every tradition, rather it is an endearing look at Chinese culture as explained by a grandmother to two young children as they grow up in old China.

Jay McTighe brings a wealth of experience developed during a rich and varied career in education. He served as director of the Maryland Assessment Consortium, a state collaboration of school districts working together to develop and share formative performance assessments. Love this Bible!...

Last night I was looking for something in Acts to share with my daughter, and how pleased we were to find her name and a "African Presence in the Bible" segment written about her name! The whole time I was growing up in the church, I saw every Bible character as caucasion and blonde. It was eye opening for me to learn that the majority of those people would have had to be of African descent based on where the events written about took place. This Bible is a treasure because not only does it explore the African presence in the Bible, but it also highlights women of African descent, and women's issues/feelings, etc. as it relates to Bible events. I find my sense of worth and value in the relationship Jesus had with all types of people including Africans and women. And this Bible is my favorite translation, the NIV, which I have used exclusively since around 1990.

Wonderful to See Us Represented

I really love this Bible! I purchased one several years ago at Sam's Club and went back and bought several more for relatives and friends. I am here now buying another one for a friend. Anyone who is diligently seeking GOD and wanting to further their understanding will love this book for the insight it provides, not only into the stories of the Bible, but the deep history and culture that resides in it. It helped me match present day people/places with past Bible stories that I'd read numerous times. I coupled this with daily devotionals from Betty Miller's Bible.Com passages and feel that I have a much better understanding of theology. Happy reading!

This my second purchase of this Bible

This my second time purchasing this bible. I had bought the hard cover version some years back. And I really enjoyed the bible so much I wore it out carrying it every Sunday and Wednesday and studying with it, that I had to purchase another one. I was so please to see it came in a leather version, I am hoping this one will with stand the wear and tear more. I also use it along with a King James Version.

In the continuing discourse and emergent project of constitutional reform in the Commonwealth Caribbean, it examines the origins of the Independence Constitutions across the Commonwealth Caribbean and traces the region’s constitutional development from the time of the emancipation of slavery through to independence. At its core is the premise that constitutional reform must necessarily result in a redefining of West Indian political identity. The theme throughout the book is the fact that the written constitutions of the Caribbean all have their origin in the British Parliament and the unwritten English constitution that has evolved over centuries. The existing constitutions were all the result of the collaborative efforts of the region’s political elite and British officials, with no participation from the West Indian people. The Crown is still claimed and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council remains the final appellate court. In the result, political independence has simply meant that the countries of the Commonwealth Caribbean are independent subjects of the Crown rather than colonial subjects. The book begins with the process of ‘lawful devolution of sovereignty’ and the origins of the sovereign states of the Commonwealth Caribbean and proceeds to address the theoretical issues of founding and amendability as well as such pressing issues about the relationship between a prime minister and a head of state in a parliamentary republic and electoral reform. An entire chapter is devoted to the Bill of Rights and addresses the fundamental rights and freedoms preserved in Caribbean Bills of Rights as well as the controversial and paradoxical Savings Clauses, which in and of themselves might justify the rewriting of the fundamental rights provisions of Commonwealth Caribbean Constitutions. Caribbean Constitutional Reform offers a philosophical justification for the establishment of a Caribbean Supreme Court based on the idea of sovereignty and the right of a people to define themselves. This work makes the first definitive step to addressing these critical issues in Caribbean constitutional theory and sets the stage for a ‘new constitutional discourse’ shaped by a Caribbean court of final appeal.
