In addition to owning Wasatch Family Therapy, LLC and serving as executive director, Hanks is an emotional health and relationship expert on TV and radio. She is a regular contributor on KSL TV s Studio 5 and has appeared nationally on TLC, Discovery Health, and FOX News Channel. Her down-to-earth advice has also been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Cosmopolitan, CNN, Women s Day, Women s Health, Real Simple, Parenting, and others. Just what I needed!

This is a great book for women who feel like we have to do it all! Julie explains why is OK to say No and not to feel guilty about it! I recommend this for any overworked, guilt stricken women! I will admit it took me about a month to start reading it once it came, I WAS BUSY RUNNING MYSELF RAGGED! but I love her advise on how to give an "inspired no" and it has really helped! I appreciate the exercises she gives in the book! it really is a wonderful help! THANKS JULIE!

Empowering Examples, Helpful Perspective, Quick Read

Therapist Julie Hanks has done a wonderful job succinctly offering practical, helpful tips for women to slow down and take care of themselves - not just everyone else. Written specifically for LDS women, this book really applies to women in general. Women spend so much time caring for and worrying about other people that they often run themselves ragged and are left with very little reserve for themselves.

One of the things I liked so well about this book is that it is only 134 pages - and that includes the workbook exercises that are spread throughout the book. It was so easy to sit down and ingest in one day and then go back to as an easy reference.

Julie does a great job of normalizing the experiences so many of us struggle with and offering personal examples that help you know she understands this topic on a very real level. I appreciated the statistical examples she provided from surveying groups of LDS women. Again, it is really empowering to understand that so many people struggle with the same challenges.

Specifically, Julie points out the tendency of women to minimize their emotional experience and their own needs. Providing clear, simple suggestions, Julie encourages women to view their boundaries and feelings of obligations differently and demonstrates how that fits into a Christian lifestyle so as to eliminate the guilt that often accompanies the thought of saying 'no' or setting limits.

I would highly recommend it as a good starting place for those who struggle with running on empty and not knowing how to fill back up.

Excellent book!

After reading MANY psychological and self-help books, I found this one quite refreshing and right to the point. The author doesn't get mired down in un-readable psycho-babble, but brings the reader through a touching and logical thought process to her conclusion. I believe this message is much needed both in and out of the LDS faith. Worth reading.
